El FC Porto se ha proclamado campeón de la Europa League 2011 tras haber derrotado al Sporting Braga 1-0 en el Dublín Arena.  En un partido que no resultó ser demasiado atractivo a nivel futbolístico, el equipo dirigido por André Villas Boas se llevó el triunfo de manera merecida.  El Braga nunca llegó a estar del todo metido en el encuentro y solamente al final dispuso de un par de oportunidades que pudieron haber significado el empate. El gol de Falcao asistido por Freddy Guarín resultó ser suficiente para dar al Oporto la victoria. La UEFA nombró al ariete colombiano como ¨Man of the Match¨.

En la zona mixta del estadio, tuvimos la oportunidad de hablar brevemente con Falcao y Guarín.  A continuación incluimos breves declaraciones de las estrellas del Oporto

Falcao: 

Diego Valdés - MotivaGoal: Un mensaje para Colombia...

Falcao - Un abrazo para mi país.  Esto también es para todos ellos y gracias por el apoyo y cariño

Diego Valdés - MotivaGoal - ¿Qué pasaba por tu cabeza cuando metiste el gol?

Falcao - No, pensaba en abrazarme con todo el estadio, todos los Portistas y con los cuarenta millones de colombianos.

Freddy Guarín:

Diego Valdés - MotivaGoal:  Gran pase de gol hoy... 

Freddy Guarín - Si, contento, feliz, es una emoción única para nunca olvidar.  Hemos conseguido una gran victoria, un gran título. Esperarmos continuar porque cada domingo tenemos una nueva lucha y esperamos de conseguirla también. 

Diego Valdés - MotivaGoal:  ¿Qué le dices hoy a Colombia que te estaba viendo al igual que a Falcao todo el país?

Freddy Guarín - Que se sientan orgullosos de este equipo, de nosotros tres que es lo que nos identifica, como nosotros nos sentimos orgullosos de todo nuestro país.





Match Report


FC Porto conquered the Europa League 2011 title after having defeated Sporting Braga 1-0 at the Dublin Arena.  Although the match did not offer many scoring opportunities, André Villas Boas' team took home the well-deserved title.  Sporting Braga never got into the match and it was only near the end of the second half that they created a couple of clear scoring opportunities.  Falaco's first half goal, assisted by Freddy Guarín proved to be enough for FC Porto to lift the Champions cup.  The UEFA named Falcao as the ¨Man of the Match¨

Diego Valdés - MotivaGoal: Can you send a message to Colombia...

Falcao - I would like to send greetings to my country.  This title is also for them, and I would like to thank them for their affection and support.

Diego Valdés - MotivaGoal - What went through your head when you scored the winning goal?

Falcao - I simply thought about embracing the whole stadium, all the FC Porto supporters and all forty million colombians...

Freddy Guarín:

Diego Valdés - MotivaGoal:  What a great assist.....

Freddy Guarín - Yeah, I'm very happy.  It is an unforgettable emotion.  We have achieved an amazing victory and an unbelievable title.  We hope to continue because every Sunday we have a new challenge, and we hope to continue winning.

Diego Valdés - MotivaGoal:  What can you say to your native Colombia, that was watching you and Falcao?

Freddy Guarín - I want the to feel proud of this team, especially of us three, because we really identify ourselves with them.  Just as they are proud of us, we are also proud of our entire country.

FC Porto 1 - Sporting Braga 0 - Half-time - Europa League Final

Termina la primera mitad en Dublín.  Tras 45 minutos de pocas ocasiones de ambos equipos, el Oporto se ha adelantado en el marcador gracias a un gol de cabeza un minuto antes del final obra del  ¨Tigre" Falcao.  El colombiano recibió un excelente pase de su compatriota Guarín y clavo el esférico detrás de la portería de Artur. Aunque el Oporto no creó demasiadas ocasiones de gol, es un resultado justo.  Pronto comenzará la segunda mitad y el equipo de Domingos Paciencia tendrá que salir al ataque para tratar de mantenerse vivo en la final.

End of the first half in Dublin.  After 45 minutes of few scoring opportunities, FC Porto has taken the lead thanks to Falcao who scored a great header past Braga´s keeper, Artur. Falcao was assisted by his countryman, Guarín and did not waste his opportunity after receiving an excellent cross.  Second half is about to get started and Domingo Paciencia´s team must go on the attack if they want to stay alive in this final.

The Europa League anthem will start playing tonight at 19:45 local time when two great rivals, FC Porto and Sporting Braga face off in tonight´s match.  It promises to be a vibrant football game between two sides that know each other very well and that have fought long and hard to have an opportunity to lift the prestigious Cup.

MotivaGoal checked in early at the Dublin Arena to report live on the pre-match events and to offer our readers some images of the stadium hours before the big match.

Entrevista con Juan Mata, campeón del mundo con la Selección Española

MotivaGoal tuvo la suerte de poder contactar con Mata recientemente.  El delantero del Valencia CF es actualmente un referente en su club y en la selección de España. Sin embargo, todos sus logros no han llegado gratis.  El jugador asturiano ha tenido que luchar muy duro a lo largo de su carrera deportiva para conseguir todos sus objetivos. 



 A continuación, Mata nos habla de como la perseverancia y la fuerza mental nos pueden ayudar a conseguir nuestros sueños.

Les presento la entrevista con un auténtico crack del fútbol mundial, Juan Mata.


Diego Valdés - MotivaGoal - Has tenido que luchar muy duro para llegar a donde estás ahora.  Háblanos brevemente de los esfuerzos y sacrificios que has tenido que hacer para triunfar. 

Juan Mata - Sobre todo, estar separado de mi familia en muchos momentos y, también, no poder hacer la vida normal de un chico de mi edad. Eso sí, nunca los he considerado sacrificios porque tengo la suerte de poder hacer lo que deseo, vivir y disfrutar del fútbol.


Diego Valdés - MotivaGoal - ¿Cómo te mantenías motivado cuando no contabas para Quique Sánchez Flores
cuando llegaste a Valencia?


Juan Mata - Yo estaba tranquilo, paciente. Sabía que era casi imposible llegar al Valencia CF procedente de Segunda División y jugar de titular. Además, sólo tenía 19 años. Opté por seguir confiando en mí, seguir trabajando igual y esperar mi momento, que, por suerte, al final llegó. Si algo he aprendido de esa etapa es a confíar en mí mismo.


Diego Valdés - MotivaGoal - ¿Cómo te preparas mentalmente antes de un partido importante?


Juan Mata - Suelo visualizar jugadas o fases del partido previamente en las que participo y tienen desenlace positivo. Ello me ayuda a concentrarme y prepararme, pero también es importante el no agobiarse demasiado y echarse encima más presión de la cuenta. Creo que simplemente hay que tener una predisposición positiva, estar concentrado y, en fin, dar el máximo de tus posibilidades.


Diego Valdés - MotivaGoal - Coméntanos brevemente las emociones que siente un futbolista que se proclama campeón del mundo.

Juan Mata - Son muy difíciles de expresar con palabras. El momento en el que el árbitro señaló el final del partido, el estallido de emociones fue tal que casi ni te acuerdas de lo que se siente. Sólo sé que es una vivencia y una sensación única tanta alegría y también orgullo al darte cuenta de que has pasado a la historia de nuestro país. Es un sueño hecho realidad para cualquier futbolista.


Diego Valdés - MotivaGoal - Eres un ejemplo ya que has logrado llegar a lo más alto del fútbol mundial ¿Que consejo le das a alguien que esta luchando por un objetivo para no perder la ilusión?

Juan Mata - Que, si realmente ese
objetivo es lo que más desea en su vida, no deje de luchar y ponga todo su empeño en ello. Habrá momentos mejores y peores pero si uno pone todo para la lograr lo que quiere… al final llegará. Y, si no, tendrá la conciencia tranquila al sentir que lo ha dado todo: ése es el mayor logro.

An entire city celebrates as FC Barcelona qualify for the UEFA Champions League Final

Barcelona, May 4th 2011


There was something in the air yesterday in Barcelona.  That special buzz you can feel in a city every so often when everyone can sense that something big is about to take place.  That special something was the UEFA Champions League semi-final between two of the greatest football clubs in the world:  FC Barcelona and Real Madrid.


Having won 0-2 away from home at the Santiago Bernabeu, Pep Guardiola´s team knew that if they managed to stop Real Madrid from scoring early on in the match they would most certainly be Wembley bound. And that is exactly what happened. 






After 54 minutes of exciting football, Pedro received an incredible pass from Andrés Iniesta and fired it in the back of the net to give Barça the lead.  Although the match was not over at that point, Real Madrid could not overcome the psychological blow of knowing they needed to score three goals to go through. The match ended with a 1-1 draw, yet despite the result, there was a clear winner at the Camp Nou.

After the match the city began to celebrate FCB´s victory.  Thousands of supporters hit the streets waving flags and honking their horns as they headed towards Barcelona's emblematic Canaletas Fountain located atop the Ramblas to rejoice.  After all, it is not every day that you beat your eternal rival.  Especially in the UEFA Champions League semis.
